Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

I've heard that about Stonington Jerry. They don't go out of their way for cruisers, that's for sure.

I still like visiting though but I anchor somewhere nearby and dinghy in. There's no place to tie up a sailboat, in fact, it's discouraged. Places like that attract me. I'd say there's been a long standing cultural war going on in Stonington for some time. Not unlike much of the coast but perhaps more focused. A few years ago, I picked up an outdated(thankfully) pamphlet on how to act as a vistor to Stonington. Tips like "Don't stand in the middle of the road gawking", and other cute stuff.

I can't say there is a connection, but I've noticed a counterculture of sorts has descended on Stonington, at least in a small force. It's now a place where you can buy auto parts a few steps from fine wines. It's a place of wide colliding diversity. I wonder how it will come out?
