I keep my CP in the navigation station.

Most people think I'm wrong but I keep my CP in the navigation station. My reasoning is that it forces me to use my eyes and my experience more than having the chartplotter in front of me for reference. I refer to it below and then go to the helm and navigate my way in or out.

Of course most of the time it makes me a little crazy but I believe it makes me a better sailor. Having the chartplotter sitting in front of you for reference makes you lazy and your senses become dulled from not being exercised.

I do admit that most of the time I think I'm fooling myself with that reasoning. Then again,,,,, I like the exercise as it's fun reading the water and looking through the binoc's at buoys a half mile away and figuring it out, especially when I do it successfully and without incident.

Maybe I just like to stress myself. I think that on my next boat it may be at the helm.
