When the attendent kept trying to fill the boat with the nozzle tripping off, a bit of fuel overflowed each time and got past the gasket between the filler fitting and the deck glass and into the bilge. It doesn't take much. A cupful will make quite an explosion. And it will take running the bilge blower for a long, long time to clear that spill.
Always open your engine compartment and sniff first. Your nose is your best insurance.
