I'm sure your Pearson 35 is very similar to my HR 35, esp in the "barn door" department. The boat was built with hydraulic steering which made the helm feather light, but owner #2 was nervous and changed over to cable. I'm seriously considering getting a larger quadrant - currently there is a 10 in. and I think I can just sqeeze in a 14. On a wild ride recently I had a young-un at the helm (28 is young to me) and he kept saying, "Boy this steering is really good for your ARMS!" A 40% improvement in the mechanical advantage sounds fine with me!
