Might try going with a larger diameter wheel if you can fit it in. Lot easier than going with a larger quadrant. My boat came with a 36" wheel which I didn't like because it took up too much cockpit space. Never occured to me it was there for a reason. Sold that and went with the stock 28" diameter wheel. That was fine unless I had to steer on a reach nearing hull speed. Quickly learned to tie off the wheel. That gave me a mechanical advantage in steering to weather by just leaning on the line holding the wheel in position. Have changed out to a 32" wheel which is a good compromise between mechanical advantage and space concerns.
Still didn't do anything for the autopilot as that is a fixed mechanical advantage. The larger quadrant would help with the wheel pilot. It would slow steering response from the wheel as the pilot, however. Hopefully the rate adjustments on the X5 would compensate for the slower wheel input.
