While the crew was being led to the ambulance - one of the Norfolk (Newport News?) rescue guys told the newscaster/interviewer:
They decided to leave Norfolk Saturday morning and beat feet north to Annapolis for shelter. They had engine trouble so decided to return to Norfolk.
*** They turned back TOWARD the storm with NO engine ***
Or maybe I misunderstood him??
If I remember correctly - it is about 130 NM from Norfolk to Annapolis. How would they expect to out run Irene? They can motor at 7knots (sail/surf on a close ENE reach at 8 knots) while the storm is moving toward them at 14 knots.
But - they were live aboards and we all know about their judgement/decision making.
