That was my first thought, as well - I would have headed back down into the Dismal Swamp Canal, few things could hurt you in there... Right past the first lock and bridge, is one of the finest Mexican restaurants you'll find anywhere, I rode out that big northeaster in which the Hardin 45 ALMESIAN was lost on the way to Bermuda years ago...
But, it was out of the question for this guy, because he didn't even have a FUNCTIONING ENGINE when he left Portsmouth!
Even if he did, one look at the remarkably fouled condition of his running gear makes it apparent that he wouldn't have been capable of out-running a summer rainshower, much less a freakin' hurricane... (grin)
BTW, I've been accused on another forum of "Hunter-bashing" for simply suggesting that there does not appear to be a noticeable additional layup at the stem of this hull, the thickness there appears to match the thickness elsewhere... I'd be interested to hear what it looks like to you, or any others out there...
