We've known for years that furling headsails and other high windage elements represent the greatest danger and likely first point of failure in such a storm...
For the life of me, I cannot fathom why insurance companies don't lay down the law, and deny coverage to anyone who cannot provide proof in the form of a time-stamped photograph that they removed their furling jibs prior to a named storm...
Or why a harbormaster would rent a mooring in the same situation without the stipulation that headsails must be removed, or make it a policy that regulars will not get a mooring in the future for their failure to do so...
I'd be terrified to ride out a big blow in most northeastern harbors, and the chance of being victimized by someone like the owner of that ketch, too lazy to remove his humongous inflatable from his davits... What the hell are these people thinking?
