...the line comes down from there to a block with a snap shackle at the deck, back up through the block at the masthead, and back down inside the mast to an exit plate and rope clutch at the base of the mast, and thru a fully articulating ratchet block... That's really the key to making it useful both as a halyard and for lifting, the ability to control it from anywhere on the foredeck, wouldn't be nearly as practical if the halyards went back to the cockpit, at least when singlehanding...
