If it were me, and I've not ever done this trip ...

I think I would probably hang out in P'town / Onset area, or Maine depending on which way, wait for the right weather & wind, and do it overnight. Of course, this assumes we don't have a schedule ... how's that saying go, you can pick the time or the place, just not both ... If it takes 32 hours, and that seems a tad long (we can usually plan on 140nm in 24 hours pretty easily), then we would leave one morning and hope to be in the next afternoon. We often do this in the Bahamas, and crossing the Gulf Stream, but it's warm there, very little traffic and beautiful sailing overnight, so I'm not sure about this route. AIS helps us a great deal. Even better, we like to do this when we can have some moon, the week before full moon is ideal. But, we much prefer doing 150-180nm on an overnight rather than 3-4 days hopping along, then weather & wind become more of a factor, and I think we get more tired that way, when constantly on the move. We really enjoy sailing overnights in the right conditions and assuming time is on your side, you usually don't have to wait long. Personally, I could hang out in P'town for days, it's one of my favorite places ... terrific restaurants, great shopping, lots to do, plenty of walking & renting bikes, and the people watching is tough to beat, especially after the shops close down at night. Nice post Tom, we hope to do exactly this same trip next summer. Cheers, John
