Lobster pots are quite far out at the beginning of the season...

In late May and early June you will find traps 10-15 miles out. They move in as the season progresses, but will still be up to 4-5 miles out even in August, particularly around islands that have lobstering populations (Monhegan, Matinicus, Swans, Long Island (i.e., Frenchboro)).
