We had lead trim ballast in the stern area when we purchased Tropical Dance. When we loaded it up for cruising we moved all the heavy equipment including our storm gear to there the lead was and were able to give the lead to local fisherman in different 3d world areas (got some fresh seafood in return). Just adding a good storm anchor, chain and a few engine parts could make up your ballast. It's a shame to add expensive weight that has no usage other than ballast.

Adding the dingy hanging over the stern on davits helped quite a bit also.
