I believe I would tend to lighten the heavy side rather than add ballast ...

three hundred gallons of water seems like an awful lot - keeping just fifty gallons of water in the heavy side would seem a viable solution, and lighten the boat overall - who wouldn't love a lighter cruising boat - if it works out, permanently reduce the size of the tank and have an extra locker to boot. (it's easy to tell another man how to balance his boat) I'm now bow heavy because I added a 20 gallon tank under the V-berth - giving me a grand total of 40 gallons. I've seen the time when I would have loved to have had 300 gallons of water.
