I said "... you'll find Mexican anchorages to be easy and obvious." I did not say there was any particular difficulty with anchoring in the Sea of Cortez.
We did use the flopper stopper quite a bit. But we also stayed in an anchorage for a week or two without moving so it was no big deal to deploy the flopper stopper once every other week.
After the first six months in the Sea of Cortez we always had a 66 pound spade and never less than 7:1 5/16" chain out so dragging was the least of our concerns. The problem with the night time winds is the noise and movement of the boat as it reacts to the 5 to 35 knot changes once every minute or so.
Part of the difference in perception might be that we spent three summers anchored in the Sea of Cortex north of Puerto Escondido - the summer conditions are somewhat different north of Santa Rosalia.
Or maybe the 900 nights we spent at anchor were unique.
