Just before haul-out date I change the oil and filter on my home mooring after my "last sail" when it's still warm. Then I have 2-3 hours of motoring to get to the marina where I haul out. That circulates the new oil. I wait until Spring commissioning to change the fuel filters.

When you think about it, your engine is bathed in that dirty acid-oil to varying degrees throughout the season. It's just a matter of degree. But it makes sense not to let it be dirty when you're not using it.

I prep the main sail for removal when I have a "window" of light winds close to haul out time, and remove the genoa while the boat is still in the water. I try not to wait for the last minute because sometimes you have to wait a week or more for light air in Fall, and a raised main or unfurled genoa can be risky while the boat is on stands.
