Once you have the hose on board filling the bucket, you can run the engine as long as you want.

Maybe you already did this,
I would have the oil changed...
And save some of your waste oil to send it out for testing
If the boat is out of the water it can be a real PITA to change the oil
I find that there is a fancy gadget in most boatyards that works well to get water to the engine on the hard...

The oil that's the bigest issues isn't in the pan -- it's on valves and cylinder walls.
Same here. But if he changes it cold and runs it 5-minutes that's better than not changing it

YOu mean by continuing to "fill the bucket"? oh, and BY THE WAY: Never use a garden hose directly into the engine
Yep, I have a shut off valve on the end of my garden hose...
