would never have an in the mast furler off shore, although I know many voyagers use them, and why I have a Monitor Vane as a backup to my robust below decks Alpha 3000 autopilot. I've never had to use the vane in 10,000 off shore miles because the Alpha has been flawless, but it is bolted to the stern just in case. Harnesses with crotch straps? I am sure that we will learn more about this terrible event and hope we can learn things from this that will make us all safer when off shore.
