Especially when coupled with the typical American diet... even worse if coupled with Southern American Diet.
Sitting for long periods of time is not good, from the aspect of lack of exercise; sitting is bad for the back, and then couple that with fatty foods... amazing that any of us make it much past 50.
I know that during a longish period of unemployment about 2 years ago, I was walking, biking and swimming quite a bit more and my blood pressure and weight went down very nicely. Two months into a new office job and the BP was right back up again.
Fortunately the admiral is catching on to my veggie diet and she is now also pursuing a "greener" diet. In the past she would insist on a big old slab of some sort of meat, chicken, or fish, with "some" veggies on the side. Now she leans toward a big pile of veggies, and legumes, with perhaps some tiny bit of meat/chicken/fish for flavor... she leaves the latter out of my meals.
