Seattle sailors who have been around for a while may know this sad tale. Jack Heady, a sometimes Seattle yacht broker and longtime skilled craftsman, did a magnificent job of restoring a (? Nordic 40 ?) quite a few years ago. He hand carved panels and generally made the boat one of a kind. It was time to get the boat reappraised for insurance purposes, so he put it on the hard for the survey. It was winter and cold so he ran several heaters. The fire started at the shore power inlet and wiped out the entire cockpit and smoke damaged the rest. The insurance company paid him off at the original appraised value and declared the boat a total loss. A yard picked up the boat and rebuilt it.
Time for me to check that torque on our boat!
Another day in the 80's for Gratitude here in La Paz.
