I don't know if mine have seen the light of day since they were built in 1961(the bolts look unused). There really is no easy way outside of removing the entire top which is steel plates(4 about 3 square feet each) through bolted over the built in glass hull tanks.
Total, my tank has an 80 gallon capacity. Short of pitch poling, we shake them vigorously many times each season, full and partially full. The filter system is one Racor 500 with a 10m filter, and a secondary engine filter with around a 3m element.
I change both filters every other season, maybe even go 3 if hours have been low. Only once do I recall the engine shutting down when I had to change the primary.
We shake the sleeping dog all the time....
