As I have no cleaning ports, I remove the vent fitting from the top of the tank and run a narrow, rigid tube attached to a drill pump and slide it along the bottom of the tank. I'll get a gallon or so of crappy looking diesel with a bit of crud before it starts to run clear. From there it's change out the filters and I'm good to go.
I need reliability as my first trip of the season is to run from the Dead Duck launch in Eliot, Maine down to Portsmouth. Any problems in the mighty Piscataqua river spell serious trouble....to the point of losing the boat if the engine fails at several critical points along the way.
