First let me say that after seeing the bills from David's heart cath & other procedures last summer, we are glad to have insurance through the company he retired from ... however, getting meds to go cruising was a problem.
After three days and several hours talking to many different people who each told me something different, I think I may have solved the issue. We have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and the prescription meds insurance is handled by CareMark (CVS mail order). Originally I was told it would be no problem to get two vacation over-rides and we'd get the meds with no problems (David just started taking Plavix & Lipitor this summer). But when it came to actually receiving the meds before we leave the country for six months, the bottom fell out.
Today I started by calling Blue Cross Blue Shield again, they referred me back to CareMark ... I politely, well as politely as I could through my gritted teeth, kept asking to speak to a supervisor as each level told me no ... finally I got Jill. I not so patiently explained the situation yet again and she said "no problem" I'll just authorize two vacation overrides. As I held my breath, she told me it was done & we'd get the meds on our time frame. And we picked up one of them at the local WalMart pharmacy this afternoon, the other is supposedly "in the mail" and we'll get it next week. It's still not cheap, but it's much better than paying full price for the Plavix until the generic is available in late May 2012.
Wow, everything is looking much better than 24 hours earlier! Cheers! Jan
