My boat name and hail are done in vinyl...

I have had them on there since 1996 and they are a bit faded but otherwise OK. My lettering is black. Other colors fade more.
There are many grades of vinyl used for lettering. Some lasts only a few years and some lasts much longer. I am familiar with the various grades because I do vinyl letting and decals as part of my business.

- I replaced mine the second time I painted the hull.
- In a time of boats often changing hands, seems a waste to paint a name on. Vinyl works for me.
