First: Tom - please don't post more photos like that. Took me several minutes to extract the chair cushion from my butt!
First time was Gloria in '85. Boat went up onto pier #4 at the Sound Lab in New London. On deck, found: a) mooring pennant had broken halfway up the eye splice, and b) a large V-shaped notch in the stbd side of the bow, about 4' aft of the stem. I think I got hit hard by another boat. Draw your own conclusions.
Second time was during some moderate NEer - a Pearson Flyer broke loose, his rudder snagged my pennant and he hung up there. Chewed up my pulpit and stbd side until his rudder hardware sawed through my pennant. Then we both went up on the beach. The Flyer carried his mooring tackle with him, and in the remaining tackle, there was NO wire on the shackle pins. The owner attributed it to 'Act of God'. Sorry, I attribute it to 'Act of Stupid'. BTW, confirmed by the later fate of the Flyer - bounced off a rock rounding Pt Judith, tore off the keel, and sank. RIP
