We have two ditch bags that we purchased

from West Marine that have foam built into the sides to keep them afloat. We store them under the chart table right next to the door to the pilot house for quick access. The hand held is right there as well. We have about 6 water bottles in each of the bags along with all the usual recommended stuff. A lot of it is held over from the old days when there wasn't any EPIRBS so I could probably get rid of the fishing equipment and the navigation stuff. I have the EPIRB,a GPS, the water, space blankets, zip lock plastic bags, toilet paper, signal mirrors, manual flash lights (no batteries required), 25mm and 12 gauge flairs, light sticks, patch kits, patch kits that don't require glue, tools, knives (without points) dry packed long life food, Orange Dye Packs, Smoke Flares, duct tape, and, I'm sure a bunch of other stuff that I can't remember off hand. Both bags only take up about a square foot and a half of space under the table out of the way. I think the 12 water bottles would keep us going for as long as it would take to get to us. That's assuming that the EPIRB works. It's in it's own Pelican case for safety kept within one of the ditch bags.
