We made the crossing from Miami to Nassau and on to the Exumas. We had both been sailing and cruising the Channel Islands of California for years but the Bahamas and Caribbean were new. We anchored a few places in the north end of the Exumas and decided to go to a place called 'Big Majors' (think pigs). There were about 15 boats in the anchorage area. Hmmm? -- I turned to the Admiral,,, look over there,, that spot about 1/4 mile to the left looks good on the chart and there's no one there. Off we go and anchored by ourselves with 15 boats far off in the distance.
We stayed there for 5 days. By the time we raised the hook, every new boat that had come in would anchor where we were and the original anchorage where the 15 boats were had only 2.
It's been 12 years and it still brings a bit of a chuckle every time I think about it.
