Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

things have changed a bit since you were there last...

Hey Efraim,

Nice to see you still popping in here from time to time... (grin)

They've added a LOT of moorings to that field in the interim. I was just speaking with a couple on a Valiant 40 who had been there recently, and while the marina claims they can accommodate boats to 45' or so, they felt that was an overly optimistic, and actually had to fend off another boat on an adjacent mooring. As you know, the current can really swirl around in that little basin, boats lying every which way... They didn't like it at all, and I think a boat the size of Rod & Patti's might now be pushing a bit in there, now...

Rod, one other thought... The folks on the Valiant spent a few days tied up behind a private home on Hendricks Isle, just north of Las Olas... The guy has about 6-7 slips he rents out, and it sounds like it's very much a hangout for cruisers, there were a couple of other boats there in the midst of circumnavigations, etc... The price was very reasonable, if memory serves I think it was something like $25 or 30/night for their 40-footer, plus metered electricity - which in their case came to something like $1.50 over a couple of days...

They loved the place, great atmosphere, nice outdoor shower... only drawback was being in a residential neighborhood, it was a bit of a walk to public transportation, etc... Other than that, however, they recommended it highly...

The guy calls it "Bruno's Zoo"... Hey, sounds like your kind of place, no? (grin)
