I wondered about the dinghy as well.

Any dinghy is capable of putting you in the water with a misstep, but some hard dinghys are much easier to tip over or swamp if you put too much weight on a gunwale. It's no secret why, the smaller the boat, the more likely it is to go over.

But I also don't think inflatables are safer boats than hard dinghys. I have good friends that had their outboard quit going to shore in a nearby popular boat filled harbor. They had to row into shore in the dark. One oar(or lock) broke. No one was around to see them. The wind was offshore taking them out to sea.....

They spent the night in Penobscot Bay. He was able to "sail" the inflatable with a jacket into the shore, finally, at daybreak. They were lucky, they could still be out there...
