Anytime using a dink you should have an anchor (only a small danforth type is needed) on board with enough scope for your local conditions. The rode should have a short lenght of small chain (about the size of chain they use on pop stands that they chain together under your boat for storage). Then you can use about 100 ft of 5/16 nylon. Many stories abound of sailors in the Bahamas whose engines quit and were quickly swept out by strong currents-- only the fortunate ones survive! Then you need an approved day/night signal kit, a whistle, and I always carry a hand held VHF as well. You can't be too careful out there!!
