I do. We use it all the time. But I don't think that's the norm?

Truthfully though, the anchor and rode we keep permanently in the dinghy and use alot for security beaching on islands and shores, wouldn't be sufficient for the depths and conditions you might be in when you break and oar or oarlock(our rowlocks are locked onto the oars, a spare is onboard in case one breaks).

I keep a close eye on both of those items and replace them, and the screws at first sign of wear. You lose an oar on a rowboat and you have problem.
