We see that here all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if the minimal you mention is what gets used. The one sure thing I expect is, GPS will be used in some form. For all the range in how people sail and navigate, GPS seems to be the new baseline for navigation. Who's still holding out against that?
On the more advanced route, I'd see an ironclad impervious Ipad type of touch screen, nearly invisible, the size of a sliver. No visual impedance. Get rid of all the knobs and casings or housings that just take up space, make for a thick mini TV look, and admit moisture.
The Navpad would be unbreakable, wireless, secure in a light bracket, operate all the other gizmos(please don't blow holes in those new bulkheads). You leave the navpad below on the mooring, use it there for navigation planning to email.
