Hey Tom, now you're expanding the scope beyond instruments. I agree with the dodger, if there's any chill or moisture in the air it makes a huge difference in comfort. Ours extends back enough so the most-forward cockpit seating position is fully sheltered from rain and spray (unless being blown in from aft).

.... and I wouldn't be able to single-hand on my boat without the AP, so that rates very high also.

As for that un-named organization, I suspect they have learned a few things about reliability and availability (and how to maximize those things).
