With a Tohatsu 9.9. Last year it would start, but not run in gear or allow me to speed it up. After trying to revive it my self I ended up with several trips to the shop and a new carb. Now I drain the carb if it is going to sit for more than a couple days and replace the fuel on a monthly basis. I use StaBil in the gas and when I drain the carb bowl spray the inside with WD-40, through the drain hole. Complete PITA, but then it is legislated engineering.
Related subject The new gas tanks for dinghy's do not naturally vent and can develop five psi. The manufacturers recommend that you never leave the fuel hose hooked up when not in use and that you vent the tank before connecting the fuel hose. They say disconnect the tank end. From experience if you don't bleed the pressure before connecting the hose you will take a gasoline bath. I worry about seals in the Tohatsu carb and fuel pump with this fuel pressure if the hose is left connected for long periods in the sun.
