The agriculture industry is definitely threatened by T. Colin Campbell...
In Response To: forks etc ()

there's billions of dollars at stake for the meat and dairy industries if people buy into the lifestyles he promotes, and they've got guerrilla bloggers to try to discredit him with blog sites and reviews on Amazon. Like everything on the Internet, you have to evaluate it (and the source) to see what makes sense to you. Key questions in credibility or slant in any blogs or posts are "where does this person's income come from?" and "what is this person's background/experience/eduction?". We all have biases, some legit and some not so legit. Those of us over the age of 40 remember what a fight it was to get the tobacco industry to acknowledge the detrimental effects of their products -- I don't think they've done it today (other than the legislated warnings on the packages).

Watch the video, read his book (The China Study). Very convincing, but you will have your doubts about some aspects, as did I. I question some of his stuff, but that doesn't mean I disregard the remainder. There's so much conflicting info out there.

I think it's well accepted and proven that cardiovascular disease (heart attack, stroke) can be prevented and even reversed by a whole-foods, plant-based low-fat diet. The medical community has also accepted that certain autoimmune diseases can also be cured by diet. But most doctors will still treat by medications and surgery because they know how to write prescriptions and do surgery (that's their training, not diet and nutrition) and much of the research in new medical technology is funded by the pharmaceutical industry. The problem is you can't cure disease by treating symptoms. Our medical community is very good at treating acute illness but not so good at chronic illness.

I think the key to preventing, delaying, curing chronic illness is diet and exercise. Yes there are other factors, environmental and genetics, the most obvious. I also think we'll be seeing more info coming out about diet curing autoimmune diseases such as MS, arthritis, hypothyroidism, to name a few.

I've had a hypoactive thyroid diagnosed almost 10 years ago, and over the years the dose of Synthroid has climbed. Basically it was non-functioning. As a direct result of this diet, my thyroid is functioning again. My doctor cut my dose in half and said "based on your readings there's a good chance we can take you off this altogether". I'll know in a few weeks after I get another lab test.
