Gene, my good friend...
In Response To: Yeah, no doubt expensive. ()

Yanmars do not leak oil, hence no need for an oil catchment basin! Why, I once saw a Yanmar throw a rod right through the crankcase - didn't leak a drop of oil!

No, that pump is the bilge pump, it says 2700 on it - I'm not sure if that's horsepower, or gallons or what, but I can tell you it will suck the gel-coat right off the fiberglass - there wasn't even a hole there until I put in that pump! But, of course, that wasn't complicated enough for me, so I have since pulled the big pump and installed it on the bilge floor. I then installed a little pump in the hole to keep up with the miniscule amount of water my ice box makes. This eliminates that great jet-engine sound that woke me for months before I figured out what it was (it only lasted about three seconds). But, even that didn't satisfy my need for redundancy - I added not only a bilge counter (so I would know exactly how many times the little bastard cycled off and on) but also a 400 decible alarm system that will screech on if the big boy finds it necessary to activate. Yes, it was time consuming and expensive but I am now confident I will not die at sea.
