There are evacuations starting up in the low lying areas around NYC and some public trans is shutting down, schools are posting closings for tomorrow. Flooding, power outages, you name it. There could be a lot of erring on the safe side, but that's a good mistake to make.
I also wonder if people in general, and boat owners in particular, are maybe a little lax because the actual storm winds are just Cat 1 and under for winds? It's hard to believe that even way up here, they're forecasting an additional 3 to 4 feet of storm surge to the high tides tomorrow. To think some urban areas to the south are looking at upwards of 10' of storm surge, yikes! That wouldn't work very well here!
