I wrote her to say how much I enjoyed seeing that spot in time, now gone by. I was thinking how rare it is to stumble onto a few observations(unsolicited) an unknown person makes of you and your family at points in your life(good and not so good...). I appreciate the few lines she wrote as much as the watercolor.
The author Peggy(as she refers to herself) said that the best part of publishing Maine Sail has been the feedback from people like you and I that have made a connection to a small painting or description of places many of us know. I agree, she makes no attempt at anything beyond what simple coasting down the Maine coast is. It was a labor of love on her part.
I met the author and wife of Bound for Roque this past season(on Dogstar in the Eggemoggin), very nice folks. I liked his book a lot. Mostly because he captured some of what sailing means to me. I rarely see that in sailing writing. Sailing is simple but hard to explain. I also could relate to some of the family "drama" onboard.
Why didn't you like it?
