At least for new members. My understanding (disclaimer) is that in order to finish paying for our new floating docks, all new members members must have boats = slip fees. There is no such thing as being a "social member" for someone just coming in. It is a priviledge reserved for older members who have gotten out of boating but would still like to take part in the activites. Unfortunately, the knuckleheads who run the new member committee seems to have the lack of basic common sense when it comes to length, beam and draft. One of the perks at our place is free hauling/launching and winter storage. Not much of a perk if your boat weight exceeds the capacity of our travelift and you get stuck on the bottom.
