I believe there may have been a few sailboat owners when this club was founded in 1973, however the majority was and still is powerboaters. They are not really involved in the local racing community, that is EYC at the head of the bay. The club as worked fine as a blue collar yacht club for many years, we have no paid staff, all work is done by members as part of the plan to keep the costs down. That in itself is an experience......one of my first "jobs" as a new member was to man the pontoon boat and run the underwater cutting equipment for the divers. We cut out about a zillion feet of pipe and old railroad rail that was pounded into the bottom for the old docks. The next phase was to have new pipe pouinded in (contract) and then assemble all the new floating docks. The club charter is full every season and as far as I know, they always have at least a small waiting list. Keep in mind that the annual dues are $400, slips are $25 per foot which includes power and water, liftout, launch and winter storage are free. Our annual outlay is $1,150 for a new 30' floating dock w/finger pier.
