The whale Gusher 30 is a great pump but difficult to mount. It's quite tall and you have to have enough space above to swing the handle. You also need to have easy access to both sides so you can open it up and clean out any debris that is clogging. I had one mounted on a board for emergency use and took up a lot of space to store because of its tall profile. Couldn't find a place to mount it permanently because of it's shape and access issues. http://www.edsonpumps.com/pumps_dia/manual.php
I went with the Edson Diaphragm Pump because it's a much easier pump to store. Figure this is a 'crash pump' that I'll use only very occasionally or in an emergency. The pump is mounted on a board and stores very compactly in a locker because of the flat shape of the pump. Have hoses attached so I can set it up in the galley area with the pick up hose going into the bilge and discharge going overboard. Unfortunately have had to use it once when the boats was on the hard. Had stripped off hatches and all gear to paint the deck and and heavy rains filled the boat to above the floor boards. Hauled the pump out and emptied the boat easily in short order. It moves about a 1/2 gallon per stroke and is relatively easy to pump.
Hane Gusher 10 mounted in the cockpit that I almost never use and an auto electric pump as well.
