I have to say, that the responses are great. This pump came to my from a friend who was getting out of sailing and used it for a portable emegency pump, as roverhi did, during his Atlantic circle. It has never been used and, as it is of a higher capacity than the Gusher 10, so I am thinking seriously about it. Roverhi, hit the nail on the head, though. The thing has a high profile and will be difficult to mount and one needs a considerable amount of swing room for the handle. A shorter handle would make it more difficult to pump, so the Edson pump would be the best and the aluminum ones show up at Bacon and Associates in Annapolis frequently. They appear to be a jumble of aluminum, though, with untreated stainless screws permanently afixed to them. I have a bronze Bosworth pump in the chart table area that does a fine job, though Steve's point that in an emergency, pumping can get old, and a new Whale 1100 gal. electric one. Your suggestions regarding alternative pump sources are excellent. I've never thought of the wash down pump!!!! It is a Groco which sucks a bunch of water (that's not science, but you understand).
As for wanting a manual pump, I am still stuck with the notion that this is what one should do if the batteries go and there is no way to charge them because the engine is on the fritz. Of course, I still think the CCA designs are the most striking of all sailing vessels. So that is how old I am. If I do mount this Gusher 30, I'll let you know. Right now, I'm still thinking about it.
This board never fails to impress me. Thanks again.
