You can never be sure where you will be forced
In Response To: Anchor chain washdown question ()

to anchor. Many of the most protected spots are in areas where mud and silt accumulate. Let's face it, mud and silt is there because of the same reason you are. It's calm! IMHO, get the biggest and strongest wash-down pump you can afford and install it permanently. If you can't or don't want to justify the expense then split the cost like I did. I installed a big pump but installed two "Y" valves as well. With the valves in one position the water is pumped from an underwater mounted through hull via the "Y" valve to the pump and on to the wash-down valve at the bow. If I reverse the two "Y" valves the the water is picked up from a bilge strainer and via the other "Y" valve then on to the pump and out the stern and over the side. Set up this way gives you yet another bilge pump and you know what they say about bilge pumps when you're sinking? They say you can't have enough of them. Brendon has been set up that way for years and I have never regretted the extra few dollars spent.
