Tom, you didn't ask for my advice, but here it is anyway. Yes, install one!!!! We sail mainly on the Chesapeake Bay where the mud is legendary. I installed a Groco pump before we went to the Bahamas, and it is a fine piece of gear. Somewhat more expensive than the Shurflo, but it is a vane pump and powerful. I have it plumbed into the same in-take sea cock as the head and it works fine. Groco has made some improvements over the years (a more reliable pressure switch and a plastic base for the pump) and they are great ones. Whatever you choose, you will thank your self. My pump takes a good bit of amps, but I almost never use it unless we are getting under way.
