The old B & G masthead units did not have carbon fiber mast. They have a small processor board in the unit. The carbon fiber unit gets grounded by the mast. That seems to reduce the masthead unit fro gettin fried by micro.lightning discharges. I believe that not grounding the gear up there is a mistake
