It's important to know the limitations of vector charts because they leave out important hazards as you zoom out. So you need to check your entire route at higher detail levels, even if you zoom out for perspective once in a while (especially in areas with shoals, reefs and islands). ALL chart plotters use vector charts. Here's a link to a thread that will help you understand the differences between raster and vector charts.
