I will go out and sail in no wind just to be out there. I enjoy just being on the boat... feeling the motion of the ocean and just ghosting along. I enjoy the work, the repairs and the pace. And sure, I get a thrill out of a good brisk sail.
She on the other hand wants to "lend a hand" but doesn't care to learn about it. Over the years I've tried to show her the ropes... first while chartering ("when we get our own boat... then I'll learn") and now with our own boat... ("just show me what I need to know...") Flat out, she's just not into sailing. But she is into adventure, and she will carry her load, if I can make it simple and easy. And she loves fishing.
So I get a part time sailing partner that doesn't mind being out there, if there's fishing to be done. But by and large, I am singlehanding. I go easy with the tasks and work to make it pleasurable for her.
I make the decisions... I share my views, but the boat is my castle (which is funny as she is the primary on the documentation).
The flip side... I don't have to go to her gallery showings. GRIN. (I go when she wins awards).
Seems to work out.
