I remember reading how bad roller booms were, then I used mine.

I expected I'd need to convert mine to jiffy reefing asap. It is slower, especially before you get the hang of it. That can make it a slow process sailing into the wind. But you do it all from the mast, no help is needed.

I'll often roll in a reef with the sail down while at mooring or anchor. I always do it alone and at most will pull it aft once or twice, but you don't have to I found.

And the bag part, that turned out to be false too. I've found the opposite. The more I roll up, the flatter the main gets. When I get a new main built, I'll slab reef it but mostly so I can go to a vang instead of rigging a preventer. Truth is, I may miss the flat sail I "used" to get with the roller furling boom.

This main is about 20 years old and still setting pretty well.
