Years ago we used a jawlike device for vang on roller boom

() It had clear rubbery ends to spread load on sail. It was a bit awkward to set up but did work. That was on a Little Harbor 37' yawl, a Hood design. I don't know who made the device.
Rolling made the the leech quite tight, not optimum, but worked.
