The elbow down to the exhaust hose was covered with an exhaust wrap and none of the damaged area was visible during any inspection. When the "break" happened the exhaust wrap was still in place. With the engine not running and water not pumping all looked fine. Looked; that is until you felt and tried to move the top and bottom of the fitting. Needless to say I'm not warpping the new fitting, all the better to observe what's happening.
But I like the pun "Give me a break".
