When ever we...

When ever we're traveling to a "new" place we have the paper chart handy. I make sure the paper chart and electronic charts agree and watch closely to make sure the man made stuff agrees i.e. bouys, lights etc. If there is any disagreement then I'm hyper alerted to figuring out what is what. And too, when I'm close to any place below or besides us that can negatively effect the boat I'm visually scouting for disturbances in the water, movement of floating objects and changes in color of the water. Anything that might signal danger.

Only one place so far we've been that I didn't have a good paper chart; Sapzurro Columbia (no large scale chart; had a small scale that showed me where it was on shore) and I really didn't like having to rely on my distrustful Navionics program and Columbian bouys or the lack there of. Once in the harbor we were fine but the ride in was a boost to my heart rate.

Ciao,
